July 14 - 18 (Boys & Girls, 9-21)
This five-day canoe and camping trip to Voyageurs National Park is offered
as a joint partnership with Wilderness
Inquiry. This
organization has offered canoe experiences
to members of the disabled community since 1978. Basic canoe instruction will
be given and no prior experience is necessary.
Campers will explore paths taken
by 18th-Century fur traders in a 24-foot cedar strip canoe. They will eat
meals cooked over an open fire/cook stove and sleep in tents. Other
activities include
hiking, fishing, tenting, and swimming.
Roundtrip transportation from the
Twin Cities is included.
Things to consider regarding your camper's ability to be successful on this trip:
› Can they safely ride in a 15-passenger van for the entire trip's distance?
› Can they tolerate a 3-hour canoe ride/paddle (with breaks) in a large Voyageur Canoe?
›Can they tent for 3 nights in any weather?
›Can they use a portable toilet outodoors? (There are no indoor bathrooms, sinks or electricity).
›Can they tolerate insects/mosquitoes?
