An Introduction to Providing Patient-Centered Care to Individuals on the Autism Spectrum

The Health Professions Autism Network invites health care professionals to their kick-off event that will bring them together for networking and learning how to better serve our growing autism population.

Presentation learning outcomes include: Understanding Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) across the lifespan; identifing challenges in the health care setting for individuals with ASD and their families; and strategizing methods to provide patient-centered care in the attendee’s own health setting. Presenters: Laurie “Chet” Tschetter, Education Program Manager, and Lucas Scott, Education Specialist, Autism Society of Minnesota (AuSM). Cost: $30 - Health Professionals; $15 - Federally Qualified Health Center Employees, Autism Society of Minnesota Members, and Students. The Health Professions Autism Network is a multidisciplinary Community of Practice for healthcare providers in all settings and across the lifespan, to facilitate networking, education, and advocacy on caring for autistic individuals and families. Funding for this event has been provided by the Becky Taylor Fellowship, through the Glen Taylor Nursing Institute for Family and Society at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

This activity has been submitted to WNA CEAP by AuSM for approval to award 1.75 Contact Hours/2.1 MN BON Contact Hours. Wisconsin Nurses Association is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. Professionals of all other disciplines must determine if the program meets the criteria for relicensure or recertification for their discipline.

Volunteer and see this CTC show for FREE
CTC is seeking volunteers to assist with welcoming, ushering and assisting families who participate in this sensory-friendly performances. Volunteers are asked to come one hour prior to the start of the performance and will participate in a 20-minute training followed by 40 minutes of greeting and supporting arriving audience members. Volunteers also receive one free admission to watch the performance for which they volunteer. The Stages Theatre Company sensory-friendly performances are designed for children on the autism spectrum or others with sensory sensitivities. House lights will be on and sound levels will be lowered, and crowds are minimized for these for these judgement-free, “shush-free” performances.
