AuSM annual meeting

AuSM-45-Anniversary-logo-v4eDuring AuSM's Annual Meeting last night, the board, staff, and AuSM members went through 2015 at a glance and discussed AuSM's financial report. After recognizing Todd Schwartzberg for his many years of service to AuSM as a volunteer, board member, and board president, the board voted into office Jean Bender, President; Paul D'Arco, Vice President; and Marc Berris, Secretary.

During AuSM's Annual Meeting last night, the board, staff, and AuSM members went through 2015 at a glance and discussed AuSM's financial report. After recognizing Todd Schwartzberg for his many years of service to AuSM as a volunteer, board member, and board president, the board voted into office Jean Bender, President; Paul D'Arco, Vice President; and Marc Berris, Secretary.

Jean Bender, AuSM Board President
Jean Bender is the parent of an adult with multiple disabilities, including autism. Professionally, she was a service coordinator for preschool children with disabilities until she retired to coordinate her son's adult services and activities. Bender came to AuSM from her volunteer work with The Arc organizations, where she held board officer positions and served as the civic engagement coordinator. She is the current AuSM Board Advocacy Committee Chair and is passionate about person-centered disability policies and services. She is grateful to her husband, Paul, and three adult children for supporting her volunteer activities.

Paul D'Arco, AuSM Board Vice President
Paul D'Arco is the father of two boys including a 23-year-old son with autism. He is a retired IBM sales executive and is actively involved in many community organizations including Special Olympics and AARP. D'Arco has been an AuSM board member for more than two years, currently is Secretary of the Board, and also chairs the Autism in Business Committee. D'Arco has been actively involved in the journey of raising a son with autism including education, transition, employment, and life planning issues. 

Marc Berris, AuSM Board Secretary
Marc Berris is a lawyer and the managing partner of Segal, Roston & Berris, PLLP, a boutique Minneapolis law firm focused on criminal case defense. Berris is a graduate of the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities (B.A., Sociology) and the William Mitchell College of Law (J.D. cum laude). He also serves on a part-time basis as a Meeker County Sheriff’s Deputy, assigned to that office’s patrol division, and he has trained hundreds of law enforcement officers, firefighters, and paramedics throughout the region about interacting with people with autism. Berris previously served on the school board of Lionsgate Academy, a public charter school serving the needs of junior and senior high school students with autism, and he currently serves on the board of the Lionsgate Foundation.
