2018 AuSM Self-Advocacy Summit

The first annual AuSM Self-Advocacy Summit presented by Anime Twin Cities will take place Sept. 22, 2018 and will include a keynote presentation and nine breakout sessions featuring topics including mental health, executive functioning, sensory needs, employment, relationships, and more. This event is for adults with autism by adults with autism. In addition to gathering wisdom from life experiences by adults on the spectrum, collect resources from the AuSM Bookstore, network with peers, and visit with vendors who support adults on the spectrum. The Autism Society of Minnesota, in partnership with Arc Midstate, Opportunity Matters, and WACOSA, invites you to participate in one of two sessions tailored to provide strategies for helping individuals with autism in emergency situations.

First Responder Training from 8:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. - Now part of the workshop sessions.
The morning session of the Autism Supports, Strategies, and Resources workshop from 8:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. will feature information important to first responders, including police officers, firemen, EMTs, paramedics, security workers, ER and trauma workers, crisis team members, social workers, correctional officers, school safety officers, and bus drivers. Learn about autism, executive function, mental illness, positive supports, behavior strategies. Plan to join us for lunch and a panel discussion presented by individuals on the spectrum and parents. The lunch will be a great time to meet community members and to share valuable insight on working together in support of positive interactions. First responders also are welcome to join us for the afternoon portion of the workshop. Training Objectives
Receive general introduction to autism.
Learn about the characteristics of autism as manifested in children, teenagers, and adults.
Understand how to interpret the behavior of those on the spectrum.
Obtain strategies for communication and behavior management of those with autism in likely emergency response situations.

Police officers, firemen, EMTs, paramedics, security workers, ER and trauma workers, crisis team members, social workers, correctional officers, school safety officers, bus drivers. *POST CEUs and certificates of attendance will be available.

AuSM Cancellation Policy

Notification of cancellation: If a workshop is cancelled or postponed, AuSM will attempt to notify you via phone, using the phone number provided with your registration. We also will post notice of cancellations and postponements on www.ausm.org.

Cancellation by registrant: Refunds less a $15 processing fee will be given for cancellations received in writing to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. seven business days prior to the start of the workshop. Following this date, no refunds will be given. Requests for transfer of registration to another individual will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Cancellation by program organizer: AuSM reserves the right to cancel a workshop due to low registrations or other circumstances that make the workshop non-viable. If AuSM cancels a workshop, registrants will be offered a full refund. If the workshop is postponed, registrants will have the option to either receive a full refund or transfer registration to the same workshop at the new, future date.
